So I saw that referrals came out recently. How exciting for the new parents. It seems like forever since we were at that point. That moment (more like months) of anticipation wondering what she was going to look like. How old she was going to be. Where she would be from. And then you see it... the referral picture. A lifetime of waiting and then there she is... perfect!
Then the real fun begins - preparing for your trip to meet your newest addition to the family. That was a crazy time for us. Some days seemed to take forever, like we would never get to our departure date. Other days seemed to go so fast that you don't get everything done. Those are the panic days when you start to realize that it is really going to happen - there is a baby coming! A real live, have to take care of, needs to be fed, has to sleep somewhere, baby!
But these days of preparation were nothing in comparison to the traveling. Talk about being crazy! The endless hours in the airports, with flights inbetween, bad food, no lip gloss. You could almost give in to the weariness, but then that little thought would creep into your brain... that little pang of longing that keeps your going! On the other end of this never ending journey would be the most perfect child. Crazy, tired, scared, anxious, paniced, love!
To the new parents who just saw their child for the first time - savor every restless, anxious moment. They lead up to one of the best moments of your entire life. And as you prepare to travel, remember this: You will forget to pack what you need, but have plenty of other stuff you don't, and none of it really matters!
