Two months ago today we walked through our front door with Ty. We experienced a lifetime of adventures in traveling to China and returning home as a family. Now we know, the adventure was just beginning!
Tonight we celebrated with a traditional Chinese meal at the drive-thru mecca Wok Delite! (KungPow Chicken - God Bless America!) Ty made fast friends with the owners who spoke to her in Mandarin. She understood a lot of what they were saying and responded with the correct action, like handing them her cup. Bilingual baby? She's such a smart girl. After our grand meal and even grander mess on the floor (rice is hard to pick up with little fingers), we went to the next logical celebratory spot: Target.
As mama searched the store for just the right outfit (for mom and of course for baby), Ty entertained herself with a rousing game of Marco Polo. As she sat perched in the cart yelling Marco (okay it was more like a really loud "Ahhhh") at the top of her lungs, she strained to hear if anyone would respond. Unfortunately she did find one willing participant in the shoe department; another small child ready for bed but subjected to squirming in a shopping cart. So the game continued.
Okay truth is that she wasn't playing a game, just vocalizing very loudly her need for attention (and the pink, yes daddy pink, jacket)! But loud as she was, we found ourselves snickering and cracking a smile at this cute little, loud child in our shopping cart. Here's where I start my schpeel about how much our lives have changed and how truly blessed we are, etc. And believe me, it's all true!
Two months ago we might have been at Target, but we would have been shopping in the furniture department or looking for new PSP games, not browsing the baby section for the perfect track suit (one that says cute, but not I'm too frilly to be wearing a track suit!)! And we would not have gone inside for Chinese food. We would have shopped first and drove thru on the way home and then plopped in front of the TV to eat. It's true. Our lives have changed. And definitely for the better.
I can't imagine how we ever managed without Ty around. She is the light of our eyes and the reason we look forward to each and every day. When we got married we knew that we wanted to start a family and the long, sometimes disappointing road has led us to the perfect combination. Three people who need each other. Three people who love each other. Three people that make a family.
I will try to post some of Ty's milestones and updated stats later this week. I know there is interest in how much she has changed in just two short months. And believe me there are changes!
